HISTORY

There are four generations backing this hard work and commitment.

First generation...

Our driving force, Maximino Rice, practiced his mechanical abilities starting at an early age, working in mines, workshops and foundries. With a forge, anvil, hand tools and the help of Luisa, his wife, he opened a blacksmith’s shop to service both the general and naval industries, which has flourished since then.

With small furnaces of his invention, in 1919 in Mexico, he patented a system for the production of cast iron rings for internal combustion engines. His motto being: “Better to be a big fish in a small pond, than a small fish in a big pond” has been the motivational factor behind the development of our company.
Second generation...

Are heirs to special manual abilities for working with iron and steel, and alternating these with leadership qualities, Luis Rice and his brother Andres, developed and consolidated several companies related to the naval industry, one of them being Rice Propulsion, born in 1959.

With great ingenuity, Luis developed and patented, in the United States, a device to draw and machine the pitch for propeller patterns that is still used to this day, and, by trial and error, developed nickel-aluminum alloys that combine high resistance and great elongation, which are now the prototypes of international certification agencies. Of great charisma and personal charm, he was the born leader for the growth acquired in this period.
Third generation...

With an essentially technical mindset, Jose Luis Rice, as of 1963, designs, develops and establishes the manufacturing systems for all the propeller and bronze piece production departments. With his motto "To get things right the first time around", and with the support of an efficient work team, he extends the market throughout the American continent reaching exportation levels of up to 80% of the total production. In the United States of America, he patented the manufacturing process for nozzles, and developed a parallel market with the propeller and nozzle combination.

Jose Luis Rice, opened-up to new markets, placing Rice Propulsion in just a few months as the only propeller manufacturing company in the country, and later as one of the most renowned companies in South America, United States of America, Canada and other parts of the world.
Fourth generation...

Jose Luis Rice Junior takes over the leadership of the company in 2002. Due to the demand of larger pieces, he extends both the foundry and machining facilities, allowing the manufacturing of propellers of up to a little over 13 feet in diameter.

Under his leadership, the repair service area is consolidated and growing, allowing access to newer and more complex markets that demand such specialized services.

His objective for the company’s future is to maintain Rice Propulsion’s competitiveness in price and technology, catering to increasingly demanding international requirements.
